To Say,'I Love My Life!'
How We Came Together

The idea for the book and monologue title originated when Susan Orosco and Margo De Leon one day were sharing their dreams with one another and discovered that they shared a vision about writing a book with a group of women. A book about self-acceptance and self-love, and the idea of writing about ‘how I can say I love my life, and mean it,’ was born.  The original intention was to bring together seven Latina writers, but as the number of writers began growing, discussions about the title ensued, and the number eight - - which symbolizes infinity, reflects the shape of a woman’s figure, and represents the year the group coalesced, 2008, - - was unanimously determined to be the ideal number!

Initially, Ms. Orosco and Ms. De Leon began identifying women they knew who were already publicly sharing life transforming stories. Women whose personal power was evidenced in their every day personas. Women who had learned to transform painful life experiences into meaningful lessons and who had the ability to express those lessons through their writings.   The group then collectively began identifying and recruiting other writers to complete the circle of eight.
These writers are Laura DeAnda, Margo DeLeon, Nancy De Los Santos Reza, Joanna Diaz, Bel Hernandez Castillo, Josefina Lopez, Rita Mosqueda Marmolejo, Susan Orosco

Josefina Lopez, an accomplished screen writer and artistic theatre director, proposed the idea of the monologues, offering to coach and guide the writers in developing their monologues, and to produce the show.

The first monologues originated at CASA0101 and were directed by Emmanuel Deleage and Hector Rodriguez. Produced by Josefina Lopez.  Since that time, other theaters have shown interest in bringing the production to their stage. The new LATC (Los Angeles Theatre Center) which seats 280, featured a production of the Monologues on May 9, 2009.
